Palo Santo

Palo Santo means “holy stick” in Spanish. These are dry pieces of fragrant wood from the sacred South American tree Bursera graveolens, which was worshiped by the original indigenous inhabitants of South America. You could say that Palo Santo is a South American version of sandalwood. Its use is very similar and, like sandalwood, it has had a strong spiritual significance for thousands of years. The ancient Incas used the burning of holy wood in rituals, prophesying, communication with the spiritual world, shamanic ceremonies of purification of spaces, things and people. In addition to its magical and cleansing effects, the smoke also has healing benefits. Essential oils, ointments, tinctures and perfume additives are made from Palo Santo wood.

The wood has a pleasant, sweet coconut scent with a hint of resin. Inflamed Palo Santo cleanses the premises of negative energy, evokes a feeling of peace and well-being, relieves tension and brings a feeling of happiness. Thanks to the it’s anti-inflammatory and sedative effects, burning the wood is suitable for fatigue caused by nervous exhaustion, meditation and insomnia. At the same time, the smoke acts as a natural insect repellent.

Use: Carefully light the stick at one end and let it burn for about half a minute. Then blow out the flame and place the stick securely onto a non-flammable surface. We can let the smoke rise and spread freely to evoke an atmosphere, insert objects for cleansing into the smoke or pick it up in the palms of your hands and perform a symbolic cleansing of the body. After the ritual, we soak the stick in water and completely extinguish it. After complete drying, we can use the Palo Santo wood again.
